Best place for US Credit Card?

Post Tue Dec 06, 2011 1:30 pm

I know this has been asked before but the posts I can find are pre-recession when credit was more readily available & the answers may be different in late 2011. We have been here 9+ months and STILL cannot get a credit card. My dh is L1A. His salary is much more than sufficient to cover our bills. We have been able to get a mortgage (6 months agao with perfect credit/payment history on a mortgage with a third downpayment!) and a car loan which we only took a 24 month payment and we have had the car 7 months (again, perfect payment history). The latest decline notice says, basically, that we now have enough loan history but haven't has US bank accounts long enough. My dh travels on business. He needs a credit card to travel or else we have to pay everything out of pocket and be reimbursed. On trips to China, that's not cheap.I truly hate US banks!

PS: We never had an Amex (I have read there are ways with Amex)

His company should issue him a company card. That would have been a condition of transfer in my opinion. That would take care of his business expenses.

For personal card, I've heard recently that capital one is issuing cards to new SSNs, I would think your spouse would qualify by now.

Otherwise, you need to actually speak to someone, not fill in online applications. The bank which is currently recieving his paycheck needs to be told to issue you a credit card or you are walking down the street.
