DO NOT TRY AND GET A TN AT THE NIAGARA FALLS CROSSING!!! The guy that processes them there is a total jerk and has his own interpretations of the rules. I have been getting my TN for 9 yrs with now hassles and he said I should never have gotten one in the first place. I drove down the road to the Fort Erie crossing and the supervisor there looked it over and determined that I should have gotten it.

Best POE in Washington area?

Post Mon Sep 21, 2009 6:22 pm

I'm a Newbie from Victoria BC. Planning to cross the border with TN Visa in the coming months. Typical flight for me would be from Victoria Int'l to SEATAC to Miami. Alternate route is through Vancouver Int'l. Anyone with comments about either POE?

Any advise and thoughts welcome and appreciated.

There have been several blogs regarding how bad some of the land border crossings are on the West Coast, in particular Blaine Truck Crossing and Sumas seem to be the ones to avoid. I suspect the Pre-Flight Inspections out West will be a better experience for you but be prepared for a thorough inspection at Vancouver International and Victoria.

I have heard about some not so good experiences at Vancouver International PFI in the past but none in recent memory so I suspect it will work out well for you.

Both Victoria and Vancouver airports have CBP pre-flight inspections, so, either way, you won't be getting TN from SEATAC, unless you are arriving in US from overseas; it will be done at the Cdn airport.

Great info! Thanks! Could this be confirmed? It seems that the cbp website (cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/preclear_locations.xml) lists Port Angeles as pre clearance for Victoria.
It would be wonderful if we could clear through Victoria.

I was under the impression that Victoria Airport Autority didnt have pre-clearance... I looked up it on their web site and this is what it says

"Victoria International Airport does not currently have a U.S. Pre-Clearance Facility so travellers will clear both U.S. Customs and Immigration upon arrival into the United States."

Ooops, thanks. Not all CBP websites are created equal:

Try to avoid Derby Line

We have always applied our TN visa at Derby Line for the past 9 yrs. At the end of my employement in the US, I was going back down in my app in the US to pack up. Derby Line did not let us through saying that I overstayed my TN after the employment. I told the immigration officer that I respected the 45 days delay the immigration officer in Manchester NH told us. Then he said, OH NO ! it is 10 days only !

They were very rude and disrespectfull talking to me like a 16 yrs old holigan in front of my children. But they did not extent the insult into banning me from reentering the US. They finger printed and photograph me and offered me a withdrawal.
