There's no way of "avoiding" being hassled, they all use the same computer system. Having been pulled into secondary inspection at some very rustic locations I can tell you by far the best strategy is to go to the POE which has the most CBP agents, because odds are at least one of them will know what they're doing plus their IT system is usually better.

NEXUS card might help at a major POE that has proper NEXUS machines, but there is still a CBP guy at a desk beyond the machines who can pull you in if he wants to. At the smaller POEs that are NEXUS approved though you have to go to secondary inspection in order to use your NEXUS card.

I'm not quite sure what amount of time you're comparing to, certainly things have gotten tougher since about 2003 for everyone and they're going to get tougher still.

Sound more like this person needs to stay cool/calm at the border. Seems to be getting riled by CBP officer, which just plays into their games.

I am a retired woman married to an american. I was told i had to apply for a green card to beable to visit my husband for an extended time. I have commitments in canada so I can only leave for a couple of weeks at a time. Summers sometime for a month. I would like to know does this affect my canada pension if i apply for a green card.
I have been told that i can not return unless i show them 12 years of taxes and bills and bank statements can they do that. And would it be better to get a nexus card and how would that help me.

Your CPP and OAS are unaffected by getting GC.

I don't know where you are getting any of this other info, but it is purely fiction.

you can live anywhere in the world and still collect CPP and OAS. You contributed to it, it's yours.

Well, no one 'contributes' to OAS, you get it for breathing.
