Bringing spouse home to Canada

Post Tue Nov 16, 2004 11:25 am

Wonder if anyone out there in Cyberspace has any tips on bringing my Yankee spouse (I am Canadian)back to Canada. We currently live in the USA. We also have a daughter who was born here in Durango, CO.

Any tips would be very helpful. We are hoping to make the leap before September 2005.

good luck it being done before September next year!

Go to the Canadian Immigration website, download the forms, you'll need the sponsorship application and the family based immigration application. Your husband will also need to have a medical exam done *before* you send in the forms.

Last stats I saw on the CIC site say that its taking an average of 9 months to a year to process spousal forms when both are outside of the country.

For your child, I believe all you need to do is contact the nearest Canadian Consulate/Embassy and register her birth abroad and she is automatically a Canadian citizen, if you are a citizen.

its not going to be easy, and its not going to be quick, and its not going to be cheap! Its about $2000 CAD for the application processing fees.

Good luck!
