Hi everyone,

I plan on doing my Masters in the UK next year, and the University of Bristol has the best program in my field. The London School of Economics is second, and as much as I adore London, I think Bristol might be a good option because I still get to be in England with a lower cost of living (and not too far from London via the rail). I was just wondering if anyone could let me know what Bristol is like. In my research I've found that since the WW II bombings the city was a bit dodgey, but that it is currently being revitalised. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hiya,

I've lived in Bristol for the past three and a half years and like it. It gets a bad rap, but I've never had any significant problems.
It has a really lively music and theatre scene, isn't far from the sea, countryside, interesting villages, historical sites, etc. A good weekly magazine is Venue, the website is www.venue.co.uk, which might give you an idea of some of the things you will be able to do here.
Bristol Uni is also a well respected university, and the campus is in a nice area of the city.
It's also very easy to travel between here and London if you want to do that. Rail travel can be expensive unless you plan on marrying someone who works on the railway (that's what I did). Bus travel is frequent, and can be VERY inexpensive.
Good luck with your choice.
