British Born Mother but Canadian at time of Birth

Post Sun Dec 02, 2007 4:16 pm

My mother was born in Britain. She obtained her Canadian citizenship in the early 70's. I was born in '77. Because my mother was Canadian at the time of my birth does that invalidate any claim I might have to British Citizenship?

Thanks!

Have a look in the UK forum here. I'm sure there is lots of info there about immigrating to the UK and how to gain citizenship.

i have the same issue. born in 75, mother got cdn citizenship in 74. the only question remains is that as she never renounced her british citizenship, what was the level of communication between canada and the uk, and if dual citizenship was allowed at that point. check out http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applyi ... dvice/bn13

My Mother was born in England and became a Canadian citizen in the 1992-I inherited her British citizenship and got Canadian citizenship through birth. Unfortunately I think she mentioned something about having been born before 1983 if its on your Mothers side (I was born in 1984) so I am really not sure. She did also mention that she thought you can also claim British citizenship if your Grandfather was born in Britain. I say apply and see what happens. Try your local Consulate.
