British Citizenship/Passport question, PLZ HELP!

Postby rjhammond » Thu Aug 10, 2006 7:56 am

Hi all! Here's my dilemma:

I'm Canadian moving to England for a year or two. My parents are British (now reside in Canada) and they married in the UK in 1967 (before I was born). Therefore I have a claim for British citizenship and a passport.

Do I apply to register as a British Citizen before I apply for a passport or do I just apply for a Brit. passport?

Also, if anyone who has gone through this can confirm what forms I use to apply for Brit. Citizenship (if need be) and the passport. I've dug up forms B(OTA) for citizenship and form C1 for the passport.

I have received unsatisfactory responses from the HC in Ottawa and the immigration office in Liverpool to my online enquiries. So before I call the High Commission using their 1-900 "permium rate" number I thought I would post this to see if anyone can help.

Thanks in advance for any advice and help.Cheers!

So your advice is to just apply for a British Passport with the High Commission in Ottawa and not register as a citizen? (ie just file form C1)

As far as I understand getting a British Passport One of the major criteria is whether your father was born in the UK
