british passports

Post Sun Oct 24, 2010 11:16 am

Hi everyone.
My wife and I are looking to relocate to the UK. She is a british citizen (now also canadian) and I am canadain. We have been married for 9+ years. Am I eligible for a british passport so I can find work in the UK?

Of course not. You need to immigrate like any other foreigner (your spouse can sponsor you, and you can work during that time), and, after a ceratin time, apply for naturalisation to UK citizenship.

As you have been married to British citizen for at least 4 years, if you apply for a spouse visa, you will be granted ILR (permanent residence) without having to go through the probationnary period of 2 years. You will then be able to get your British citizenship (and British passport) after 1 year on ILR.
