After a long-overdue absence, i'm back. I'm still planning on moving to the UK in the near future, but no official plans yet.

Until then, i'm planning my 3rd Eurotrip for this summer. I'll only be travelling for about 2 weeks this time, and will be staying about 5 days in Budapest. I noticed "CanuckAbroad", that you lived in Budapest? I was wondering if you had any suggestions of things you think I can't miss. Since you lived there, you must know the city pretty well.

Thanks,
Devin

Absolutely!

What are your interests?

Try out some of the baths. There are many to choose from. Museums - Check out the castle district (var) and you'll find a couple there. The wine museum is good for tasting a lot of different wines.

Best museum is the Terror Haz - former gestapo headquarters, and secret police station.

I haven't checked out the art museums there, but I hear they're decent.

A cool bar where bands play is actually on a boat in the river called A38.

Nightlife is pretty good, and relatively cheap.

Let me know what you're interested in and I'll let you know what there is to see Smile

First off, thanks for the response, and I applogize for taking so long once again.

I love history, architecture and culture. Bars, clubs etc. don't appeal to me at all, especially on this trip. However, I don't mind sitting at an outdoor cafe having a drink. Bars in hostels aren't bad, cause it's a great way to meet other travellers.

I definitly plan on making it to one of the many baths. Is there one that you recommend over others? I'd like to go to one that has more locals then tourists.

Wine testing might be fun. Where is it located? I'm staying at 2 different places, both in Pest. One is in the Astoria area, and the other near the Opera house.

I checked out the Terror museum and definitly plan on seeing that. I also want to do a bike tour. Any idea which company is the best and most popular tour?

Thanks again.

Hi again,

What about scooter rentals in Budapest. Is there a certain place where you could go to rent a scooter for half a day?

Heya,

SOrry, I must have missed the last question!

If you like sitting outside in cafes, there are plenty of those. However be warned. Anna Cafe, a really popular cafe with two locations one on either end of the main drag Vaci Utca are super overpriced. Like $5 a beer over priced. Coffee isn't much better, and it's not like its all that great either. But you'll come across lots of other places too.

Wine tasting is in Buda on Castle Hill. There's a few ways to get there, but the easiest is to take the Metro to Moskva Ter, then go up out of the station and keep walking straight where you'll see a staircase that goes up a little hill onto a street loaded with buses. Any of the buses with a little castle or that say "Var" (Hungarian for Castle) will take you up.

You could walk it too though, but it's easier of course with the bus.

Baths - the names escape me, but on the Buda side there are several. I'd ask at whereever you're staying. The main Szechenyi baths in City Park are nice and super popular with tourists and locals. THe Gellert Hotel is beautiful - but fairly expensive.

Scooters - I have no idea, but I know I wouldnt want to ride one in Budapest Wink Make sure you where a helmet, maybe some full body armour too.

Bike tours are available, though I can't think of any names. I've seen them around though. I wanna say "Mikes" but I tihnk that's only Munich.
