Busabout or Rail pass?

This travel lady said busabout is better and cheaper. But it looks more expensive to me. Could someone tell me which is better and why?

Hey,

I'm not sure about busabout or Eurail either. It seems like the trains would be cheaper but I'm leaning towards busabout b/c I'm a female solo traveller and it seems safer. Also I like the idea of being dropped off and picked up from the hostel which in the long run would save money and hassle in travelling. I don't know though! Anyone have any helpful tips?

hello there, I travelled using busabout last summer and loved the experience, met a few cool people and still remain in touch with some, it's good to know that there's a couple of couches I can crash in SA, NZ. For a solo traveller I would suggest busabout as the buses are full of all kinds of travellers and it's cool that you suddenly make a few friends, makes tavelling a little more interesting as there's someone(s) you can talk to, and getting picked up/dropped off at the hostel is definetly a bonus as it saves you time and money.[/list]

Hi there,

I strongyl recommend the trains! I hated taking buses, they're cramped and often take longer than trains. At least with trains you can get up and walk around, ususally you can spread out and relax, and you also always meet travellers. I've Eurailed three times on my own but I was never really 'alone'.

I think it's way more convenient to hop on a train at any time and go to wherever you want on a wim rather than have to deal with buses.

Just my opinion though. Also, busabout kinda seems like cheaping out on the whole experience like being in Paris and only eating at McDonalds. Travelling on a train is more 'real' somehow and you meet great locals, other travellers, a good mix.

Again, just my 2 cents.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks so much,

Your input was a big help. Considering I'm really only interested in travelling Portugal and Italy, Busabout is probably not my best option. I was initially attracted to it b/c of the opportunity to meet people. But from what I've heard meeting people is not that challenging.

Thanks again and if anyone has any tips about travel in portugal or italy (especially fastest and cheapest way to get b/w countries) it would be appreciated

Natasha
