Buying a condo in Alsace - Legal Requirements

Post Tue Apr 14, 2009 8:46 pm

I am currently saving to buy a home for semi retirement (6 mo/yr) in Alsace, I like the area as being from Western Canada it is easy access from Franckfurt which is a direct connection plus 3 hrs dive and it's not a higher price like the cities..First question can I buy legally in France?

My 2nd question at this point - as I'm a good 7 years out from doing this - is what are the legal requirements for a canadian to purchase a home in France without working there? Is my future 6 mos a year in/ 6 months in Canada put towards a residency allowance in a future time? Meaning if I stay 6 months a year over time does that count towards residency and possible citizenship ?

Any experts out there on what I need to do to work towards my goals?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, there's alot of info in Brits buying in France but not us Canadians.
Thanks!
