Buying a house in France

Post Wed Jan 25, 2006 2:13 pm

I've travelled in France last year....from Paris to Nice and to Bordeaux.
I love the country side...but love Paris too. Can't afford to buy in Paris...any suggestions?

A la prochaine!

try some of the smaller cities in France. The less touristy spots will be cheaper, but if you're looking for a charming town than I would suggest maybe Perpignan or Carcassonne

You still need to see the Basque country, Britany, Alsace and Normandy. After that you'll have enough material to start thinking. And you'll probably want to buy a house in every region ! :)

I will suggest Toulouse or the ''pink city'' (a loooooot students), an amazing night life and a lot people coming from around the world (airbus industry is there). Bordeaux is a very nice, clean city and close to the Atlantic ocean (1 hour trip) or the Basque Country as mentioned above by CanaDave (Biarritz, St-Jean de Luz, Hendaye). You are close to Spain (San sebastian). Alsace is very nice as well however they are not easy ti understand because they are speaking a dialect in the street. Very nice villages and close to Germany. Toooo much suggestion(s) in France!

Hi there,

Just joined this Forum. Not sure if you have decided where to buy yet, but I purchased a beautiful property in Normandy in September 2006 and LOVE the area. I now spend 6 months per year there and am always heartbrokenb when I have to leave. Need to stick to the plan thought, 2 more years and will be there permanently. good luck to you in your search and hope you find your piece of paradise as I did.
