Buying and driving a car in the US before importing to Can

Post Thu May 15, 2008 6:04 pm

Hi all, first post. I'm considering buying a car in the US (either NY or AZ which are close to relatives). I then wanna use that car for travel for about a month while still the US, and then drive it back to Canada. I'm aware of the import process but how do I get the car temporary plates and insurance for the month before importing.

Any help is great.

Thanks all

You need a Canadian title to get the registration done in Canada, so you have to do the import procedure first, have a look at www.riv.ca

If you want to use it before importing it, you'd have to register it in the State where you buy it. Getting insurance for a month especially with a Canadian DL is not going to be easy, check with insurance companies but I think really you need to revise your plan unless you want to waste a lot of money.
Steve.
