Buying something as a student

Post Thu Aug 26, 2010 7:30 pm

Hi

I am currently studying in Canada Vancouver. I came here without a computer and now I want to buy one.
I want to buy it in the US because the one that I want is not available in Canada. But I do not know anything about the taxes and dutys. I am going to take the laptopb back home to Austria after my stay here in Canada (in one Year). Do I still have to pay dutys and taxes? And of course I am only going to use the laptop for myself and not going to sell it.
So do I have to pay any taxes or dutys when I order a notebook in the US and get it shipped to Canada. (Again: I am going to take the notebook with me to Austria after my studies)

Yes,you have to pay EU Taxes. When the puter cost less than 475 Euro you don't have to pay Taxes.

Mail the customs in your Country for further information and ask them !!!

So you mean I have to pay the EU taxes when I get backt to Austria?
So what do I tell the customs when they keep my package vom the US in Vancouver because they think I have to pay dutys/taxes?

(I already emailed the customs four times and they haven't one given me a straight answer. It's always: "You can find information on that on this website yada yada yada...)

Hello,

yes you have to pay taxes..

Why don't you call your laptop via courier services.

Fedex will be the best quick and safe delivery..there is no sense in going back to Austria and then came back simply to take a laptop..waste of money and time.

thanks
Daniel :)
