Can Canadian husband married to Polish girl work in UK?

Hi there.
I need some info and if there is anyone who can give me some answers.
I have both citizenships: Canadian and Polish. I married a Canadian in Canada 4 years ago and we are currently in London and we would like to settle here.
My question is.does my husband need to get a work permit or some other paper to get a job? How long does it take for the paper if any and any other related information
I called immigration here and they say nothing unless I pay them £100 for the info. I am a member of EU, so for me in so not a problem to work in UK. I am desperate for information.

I am in a similar situation (including the Polish part), except that I came to London with a HolidayMaker visa from Montreal. Now I work full time and I dont know whats quickest (I dont want to be unable to work for long period of time), marriage (in UK or in Canada) or have my employer try to sponsor me. My visa expires in May 2008.

Francois51,

I think the best for you would be to apply for a spouse visa (after getting married) but you will have to do this really soon because it does take a few months !

If you are eligible to a work visa (your employer will have to demonstrate that he could not find anyone from the UK to do your job ) , I think the waiting time for this type of visa is about the same as a spouse visa but you have more chance to be accepted with the last one.
Also with a work visa you cannot really change your employer unless you find another one that would accept to sponsor you (and apply for the visa).

Thanks Joanne for the help, I am a developer and am not 100% sure they can sponsor me (although they seemed confident when they hired me). The ideal would be something that allows me to go to Canada for maximum 2 weeks and come back at work (as if a 2 week holiday). So seems like the spousal visa would be the best way.

Coming back to the subject, is it better to apply for the visa from the UK or from Canada where they marrigage would take place? Also, the second post above says that it would not cost me a penny to apply for a work visa if my partner is member of the EEA? The ukvisas site seems to say that it would cost 550 pounds?

I dont know if I would qualify as an EEA family member (I would be the husband of a Polish national working in the UK). If I did then I could ask for a free of charge EEA family permit, am I right?

This is a bit complex and any help would be greatly apreciated.

Not sure on the other questions, but regarding paying for the visa, (again, not sure that I can answer for Fahim, but.) it sounds like the intent of Fahim's post was that you wouldn't have to pay anything for the information. The application is a different story - you would have to pay for that. I haven't looked up the fee, but I believe 550 pounds sounds right.
