Can I apply TN in San Diego (the entry between US and Mexico

Post Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:15 am

Hello all-

I am under TN, since I am changing company, I need to re-apply TN on the board. I am in San Jose, can I re-apply TN in Dan Diego, the entry between US and Mexico?

Thanks!

Yes, the Tijuana/San Diego border crossing is a main Point of Entry for the US.
You should be able to get your TN there.

In fact, they are probably very familiar with issuing TN's, since I assume a lot of Mexicans would go through this POE as well.

Thanks for your quick update.

Do you know how to go through border over there? Drive car pass Maxico entry then go back to US entry? Or park car in US and walk to entry?

Thanks-

I believe you need an appointment for Canadians at this border. Check their website they have the info for contact person. When I was trying to get an appointment I was told that the earliest one available was about a week from the day I called so be prepared to get an appointment well in advance.

I don't know about the appointment part, but you should be able to drive over the border, or walk. I believe the San Diego trolley (transit system) has a station right at the border, and it's fairly common for people to simply walk over.

On the other hand, if you get denied re-entry, it might be helpful to have your car with you in Tijuana if you need to drive to the airport, etc.

One thing to keep in mind though is that if your application is denied, they could deny you entry into the US. If that's the case, just finding a flight home (back to Canada) might be fairly difficult / expensive (needs to be a direct flight to Canada).

TN at US/Mexico Border

No appointment is required. I did not take one and was granted TN in minutes.

I parked my car on the U.S. side and walked into Mexico and walked back right away to U.S. side.

Well the trick is to make sure the guy who handles TN applications is there, as they usually work regular office hours.

I live in Arizona and with the Nogales border being really volatile right now, I'm thinking of going to the San Diego/Mexico. Does anyone know how safe the border over there? I'll be basically renew/re-applying for a visa that I've held for the past 1.5 year. Anyone have any problems applying for a TN that border?
