Can I bring meat with me to the US?

Post Thu Jan 01, 2009 8:01 am

I am moving to the US on an L1 visa and I work for a meat company. This means that my freezer is filled with steaks. It seems like a stupid question, but I don't really want to throw out the steaks...

So can I bring across individually vac packaged steaks into the US?

Nope, you can't take meat with you across the border.

Meats, livestock, poultry, and their products are either prohibited or restricted from entering the United States, depending on the animal disease condition in the country of origin. Fresh meat is prohibited from most countries. Canned, cured, or dried meat is restricted from some countries. A permit is required for frozen, cooked, canned or otherwise processed beef, lamb, and veal from Canada.
