can I get a British passport? canadian married a British ma

Post Sat Nov 22, 2008 4:33 pm

Hi there,

I am a Canadian woman living and working in the UK on a 5 year ancestry visa. I recently got married to a British man. I am wondering if I can get a British passport? I don't really need it for anything specific, but just thought that it might be easier for travelling together. Thanks for your help.

To be able to apply for a British passport you have to be British .and you are not!

You can apply to be naturalised once you have been living in the UK for 5 years.

You will first have to go for the 'Life in the UK' test.
You will then send you application for naturalisation and you will be require to go to a citizenship ceremony.
After all this you can apply for a British passport (once you are British)

hope this helps

Go to a British Embassy website (ie Vancouver) and look up the passport information. It provides you with all the information and forms you need if you still are curious about applying for a British passport example - if you have parents or grandparents who were born in the UK. Hope this helps!
