Can I get german citizenship??

My father was born in germany from german parents. They came to canada when my father was 7. Does this make me eligable to apply for german citizenship? Would my dad have kept his or lost it when he came over here about 5o-ish years ago?

I doubt it I looked into this very extensively as both my parents were born in Germany and moved to Canada as kids.

I was in the same position but Germany changed their laws several years ago. It used to be fairly easy but now the law is that unless one of your parents was a german citizen at the time of YOUR birth, no dice.

There are some legal things you can look into to try and get it, but it'll cost you many thousands of dollars and no guarantee of winning the case.
