Can I sell a properly imported Canadian car in US?

Post Thu May 05, 2011 7:24 pm

I am a US resident (not a citizen) and own a Canadian 2004 Nissan Sentra which I have properly imported, paid taxes for and registered/titled in Maryland. In order to register it in MD I had to get a letter from Nissan stating that the car met the US standards and it passed the inspections in MD. Now I am planning on selling it. Can I sell this car in the US or do I need to go back to Canada to sell it? Thanks.

as long as you have the customs form that "released" the car into US, you can sell it like any other car.

Of course, expect to take a slight discount for having kms on your speedometer and odometer.

yes you can. I did it in 2002. I sold my canadian car to a US resident. I was working in California then so I imported my car from Canada. It had to go through smog test in California in order to be licensed there. Once I have California license, I can sell it to anybody provided the buyer is OK with the kilometer in the speedometer and odometer.
