Hi all!

I am a Canadian citizen and have been since I was about eight years old. I was born in the UK and want to know, can I still get dual citizenship?

Also, wondering if I can't get dual citizenship, can I get a British passport and how?

If anyone has any info for me or where I should go to look please let me know!

I am currently living in Canada but have family in the UK.

Thanks for your help!

hi MegB,

Dual citizenship only means that you hold more than one passport (citizenship) so If you can't get dual citizenship (Canadian and British or other) it means that you can't get a British passport (or other) !

So were you a british citizen before you were 8?
If yes you only need to apply for a British passport.
If no.are your grandparents british? if yes than you could possibly apply for Uk Ancestry visa.

If your mother (or your father and he is married to your mother) is british I think you could be entitled to a British passport

Hi Joanne!

Thank you so much for the help! I was born in England and lived there for about 4 years but was a British citizen until about the age of 8. I will take a look at the website.

Thanks again!

I think the fact you were born in the UK should immediately qualify you for a British Passport.

Joanne is right about the Ancestry Visa, although all that will do is let you stay in the country for 4 years, at the end of which you can apply for indefinate leave to remain in the UK, and after that you can apply for a passport, and ergo citizenship.

If I were in your shoes I would track down my birth certificate as this should be all you require to apply for a passport.

Then you can use the short queues at the airport! Smile
