This is what it says on the Massachusetts RMV website regarding leased vehicles:

When a leased vehicle is brought to Massachusetts, the vehicle must be registered and titled here, unless the vehicle is currently titled in the leasing company’s state of residence. Note: The address the leasing company is listing on the RMV-1 must be an address listed with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR).

If the leased vehicle does need to be titled in Massachusetts, this will mean that lessee must bring the following to an RMV branch office:
- An RMV-1 Form, fully completed, stamped and signed by a Massachusetts insurance company/agent
- The current out-of-state title
- A $50.00 title fee
- Registration Fee: Please note that registration fees vary by plate type. See the Fee Chart for a list of RMV plate types and fees.

So it looks like all I need is the information on the current out-of-state title. There is nothing around having to transfer the lease title from the car company to the individual (i.e. me).

You don't have an out-of-state title (that is an american thing) nor a leasing company that is registered with MA DOR. So you won't get a RMV-1 either.

Ok - update for all of those who are (were) confused (like I was). I have JUST finished placing a call to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (after being on hold for over an hour) and have confirmed that as a visitor OR resident for a period of one-year, all Canadian registration, driver's license, insurance, and license plates are VALID for that period of time. Therefore, no registration, license, etc. needs to be transferred over to the State of MA! GREAT to know!!

Now if only I get the permission letter from my leased vehicle's company, I'm good to go!

I have a same problem. What if I buy out the Canadian leased car?
Should I go back to Canada to do it?

Regards,
