Currently we are a couple of Canadians feeling rather stuck in Canada!! We have a small business and we are told over and over again that we would do exceedingly well in the Southern US States ie: Florida or California etc. We tend to agree with this as we currently do a lot of internet business in those areas. One of our suppliers in the US has told us that there is no one doing business in So Cal. and the territory is very open. (They have 30 years in this biz and we believe they know what they are talking about.) Unfortunately Canada is not the greatest place for our seasonal type products (Summer). We do well enough but we know we could blow the roof off this biz in a warm climate. Everything that I have read so far has no information pertaining to how entrepeneurs can relocate to the US. Can anyone help?? Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post!!

you may be eligible to apply thru a NAFTA visa, here's the page on the USCIS webiste with the handbook for that http://uscis.gov/graphics/shared/lawenfor/bmgmt/inspect/nafta2.htm

and the page from the FAQ with info about a TN visa http://uscis.gov/graphics/faqsgen.htm#nafta

I would also suggest that you contact a competent immigration lawyer to find out what your options are as an independent business owner. You may be able to find a lawyer at http://www.aila.org make sure you talk to someone who is knowledgeable about your specific type of immigration. If they say they've never done independent business visa before, find someone else! There's nothing worse than wasting your money on a lawyer who doesn't know anymore than you do!

Good luck.
