Can you buy a house in UK?

We're researching a move to the UK. I'm a dual citizen. Just wondering if we would be able to buy a home after landing there? Would anyone care to share thoughts on good areas to live. Thanks

yes, you can definitely buy a house in the uk. trust me, your money will not be rejected.

personally, i think london is the best place to live in the uk if you can deal with the expense.

Yep, even better if you're a dual citizen.

I bought a house while on my ancestry visa - I had to pay a larger downpayment because I only had 2 years left on my visa - which ultimately wasn't that big a deal since it means owing the bank less money! But if you're a citizen, you won't have that difficulty.

It's a good time to buy. The Canadian dollar is strong so you should do a little better when you exchange to pounds (better than a year ago)and the market is slow (so we are being told) and interest rates are dropping.

Hi All,

Has anyone had any experience with mortgages when landing in the UK? After selling my place in Canada, I want to buy a place when I land and only need to borrow 10-20,000 GBP but I don't think Canadaian credit ratings are worth anything in the UK.Any good/bad stories out there? Thanks.

I thought buying in the UK was much easier than in Canada even.

It's pretty much exactly the same, the only real difference are the taxes. GST on new houses in Canada, stamp duty on all houses in the UK.
