Canada/USA - Dual-Citizenship

Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen any my wife is an American. We want to apply for her dual-citizenship in Canada (she already meets the requirement for becoming Canadian citizen). Here are my questions:

1. Is there any special form for dual-citizenship? (could not find any on cic.gc.ca)

On Form CIT-002, they are asking "Are you a citizen of any other countries?"
Yes/No - "If yes, please list the county (countries)"
It does not ask, if you want to keep your current citizenship or if you want to apply for dual-citizenship etc.

2. Do we need to specify somewhere that she is applying for dual-citizenship?
3. Do we need to notify US Immigration before/after applying for Canadian (dual) citizenship?

No, there's no special form, because obviously virtually everyone applying is already a citizen of somewhere else. You just list what countries you already are a citizen of.

You don't need to notify anyone in the US, used to be required years ago to tell the State Dept. but they don't bother anymore. It has no effect on her US citizenship, the only thing they're worried about is that she keeps on filing a 1040 every year.

Obviously she needs to meet the physical presence test.

She must have been physically present in Canada for a total of three years in the last four to qualify for citizenship, this is why the application form asks for a list of absences from Canada.

There is no application for "dual citizenship" its just a given. She was born a citizen of the US and is applying to naturalize as a citizen of Canada. She will be a citizen of both, and will need to carry 2 passports. One for Canada and one for the US. When she's going to visit the US and they ask her citizenship, she should reply American and show her US passport. When she returns to Canada, when asked her citizenship, she should reply Canadian, and show her Canadian passport.

If she travels abroad, the Canadian passport is more widely accepted. I think there are still countries where Americans are required to get a travel visa, but Canadians are not.
