I also found alot of small Asia food shops strangely enough have Canadian/American imported food items? I just picked up a flat of A&W rootbeer for $20! It was a steal! I am in heaven!

Bagels, smoked salmon, good dill pickles, proper mayo, iced tea powder that isn't in little sachets, Reeses Pieces and the peanut butter cups, micro brewery beers, Crown Royal, Fire Balls and Mikes Hard Lemonade, poutine, hashbrowns.... and the list goes on and on. Oh, the food I miss.

And on top of missing the good stuff, every time you order a hamburger you have to specify that you don't want beet root or shredded carrot or that nasty bar-b-que sauce. If it wasn't for the weather and the awesome people I probably would have gone home just for the (junk) food and alcohol that I miss.

Mind you, I have managed to lose weight since moving to Australia. So part of me wishes I hadn't seen all the posted web sites that are leading me to order all my bad habits over the internet...

What I have recently discovered is that Australian Cadbury's chocolate is absolutely vile, I nearly threw up, like Hershey's chocolate with sand in it.

Hi there I loved Australia when i was there in Aug. I live in Canada. If anyone is missing a snack food from Canada I would love to pick it up for them if someone is willing to do the same for me with food in Australia I fell in love with. Be a lot cheaper then buying online. Just drop me a message and we can work something out. thanks Trish

I'm in the Newcastle, NSW, Aus area:

-I've found the big bun-like bagels everywhere but of course not the lovely dense Montreal ones, but I haven't been seeking bagels.

-Smoked salmon I found at Aldi but I wasn't looking hard.

-Good dill pickles... I HEAR THAT. Ok I was DYING for the kosher pickles I fell in love with in Montreal (I'm originally from Hamilton, Ontario) and I was trying all the varieties, trying to remember why I used to like Bick's when I was a kid and trying to figure out what my BF sees in sweet gherkins (bleh) with no success. Then, in Woolworth's I found this white can of imported Israeli pickles which are super garlicky, cloudy and awesome like Mrs. Whites or Putter's pickles. They're a bit small and wilty but the compromise is worth it for the taste. They are called Eskal. http://www.trialiafoods.com.au/acontent ... /73865.php

-Proper mayo. This is my mission in life. I found Thomy brand mayo which is from Denmark or something and tastes awesome but the fat content is an ungodly 86%.

Anything with less fat is that tangy crap that tastes like Miracle Whip (I'm not a fan.)
I miss Hellmens that tasted right even if it was low fat.
If anyone has been through all the mayos and found an acceptable Hellman's-like one PLEASE tell us!

-Crown Royal. I saw Canadian Club. Mix it with Diet Coke it's all the same :P

-I miss Rootbeer. Sarsaparilla is not the same.
-I miss Dill Pickle chips.
-I miss veggiepate.

What's up with chicken flavoured EVERYTHING? Chicken is barely a flavour to begin with. Things that have no taste taste like chicken. I found chicken and beef flavoured Easy Mac. I tried them both and they were so wrong.

I sorta don't want to look at those websites because I like the experimenting with new foods trying to find the tastes I'm used to. But it's almost been a year. Maybe I deserve a treat or two or ten.

Corner Gas is on SBS Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:30pm

I'm missing REAL wholewheat flour, rye flour, multigrains, light mayo (like Helmann's/Best Foods) Does anyone know where in Perth I can find these? I'm really missing the Grocery Stores like The Great Canadian Grocery Store that sell items in bulk! These tiny little bags of flour for the same price as a 10kg in Canada is knocking me senseless!
Thanks!

I found Hellmanns AND Best Food (both have the little blue bow, right?) at Coles, but didn't find light. It's still nice for a treat though and then endure the gross light stuff the rest of the time.

I ended up ordering a Robin Hood Nanaimo bar premix from an online site, but haven't made it yet. Waiting for Xmas. I found rootbeer at a lollyshop in The Junction, Newcastle, NSW but it's from the states and I swear even though it's A&W it still tastes different. Or maybe my tastes have changed.

What about thin, crispy, streaky bacon? I sorta miss that.
And Tim Horton's.

Maybe I should go home for Xmas!
