Thanks for you reply anyway

at the time of my post , if you are in the UK you'll find that the straight cost of a British passport is cheaper than the ROA certificate.

On the basis that you already qualify for a British passport, I suggest you compare & see which is best for your situation.

If you have to go through the citizenship process - then yes, the ROA is better for you given the time, effort & cost of naturalization or registration as a British citizen + the then passport application cost

By the way, if you are in UK with right of abode, you might just consider remaining in that status until you qualify to naturalize, which will give you top-grade UK citizenship, rather than citizenship by descent thru UKM.

Would not UKM to citizenship cost more that renewing right of abode?

Just another option.

Good Advice Artful Dodger84

I read your post and I am also applying for a UK passport after having my Right To Abode for 10 years. My mother is from Scotland and I was born in 1963 in Canada.

Two questions:

Where did you send your application and paperwork? New York or somewhere in Canada?

I cannot find a form to fill out regarding the Visa payment for processing costs. Only one for the UK? Where did you find yours or what is the form labeled as?

Many thanks for any help you give.

Great advice on the cover letter as well - I will be including one as well.

I recently applied for my first UK passport from Canada using the C1 form & it went through the British Embassy in Washington DC. Here is a link -

http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/what-passport/first-time-apps/steps-first-timers/

the address to send it to & payment details are here -

& specifically the payment authorization form is here -

I used all the above resources & had no issues.

Travel agents are not necessarily competent to give immigration and nationality advice and services. In the UK only OISC registered immigration adviser or a solicitors can give such advice and services.
