Canadian citizen moving back for six months

Post Thu Jun 03, 2010 12:11 am

So I have many questions. This is my situation.
I am a canadian citizen and have recently obtained my American permenant residency. My husband is American and is in the Marine Corps. He will be deploying for six months and I have a job opportunity in Saskatchewan for the time he will be gone. I planned on driving our vehicle (in his name) to Canada with him but am unsure if I will be able to get insurance or if I have to get SK plates? Or if I am going to have to pay taxes on our vehicle if I do in fact need to register it in SK. I found out our American auto insurance will not cover me since I will be gone longer than 30 days. Do I need a SK drivers licence if my Virginia licence will expire while I am gone?
I am also unsure what to do about health insurance? Whether I need coverage in SK or if I am still covered under their SK health?
I am starting to wonder if it is all worth it? My immigration lawyer said I am safe to go to Canada for 6 months, just not over a year due to the conditions on my residency?
Has anyone been in a situation such as mine?
Thanks!

You are basically reestablishing Cdn residency. You will get SK health cobv=erage, and will need to import your car, plate it and get SK DL.
