Congratulations! Your baby will be a dual Canadian/US citizen. All you have to do is file for a Canadian citizenship certificate once the baby is born. I'm not sure exactly how that's done, but someone else will be able to tell you. Bottom line: your new baby does not have to be sponsored to come to Canada.

a little background:

I'm American/Husband Canadian, I'm currently pregnant and filing for Canadian Permanent Residency. Baby will born in US, but we would like to move to Canada shortly after birth if my immigrationis complete.

Once the baby is born, you go to the Canadian consulate in the US and register the birth abroad. This will get the baby a Canadian passport.

click here and look for the closest consulate to where you live in the US.

Has anyone recently moved back to Canada with a US born child who does not have a Canadian passport/certificate?
I am in a similar situation as US2Canada. I am a Canadian currently living in US. I too recently had a baby 4 months ago. I am about to move back to Canada in a few weeks. When I contacted the Canadian consulate in New York last month about registering baby's birth and applying for her Canadian passport, I was informed not to apply for anything until I return to Canada. It is because of the wait time for getting a proof of Canadian citizenship certificate which now takes 6-8 months. So my baby will enter Canada with her US passport. I hope the Canadian custom will allow my baby to stay more than 6 months since I am moving back to Canada for good.

Thank you to all the the information. I highly appreciate your effort in giving the right information. Sorry but I have no idea on that issue.

Check the Passport Canada website, I'm sure there's information there on how to get your baby a passport and when you need to get it.
