canadian electronics in UK?

Post Sun Apr 10, 2005 3:09 pm

Hi,

I'm bringing over a laptop and an effects unit I use for my guitar, and am wondering what the best way is to allow them to plug in to UK electrical plugs? Anyone have experience with converting Canadian electric devices to UK?

thanks
Geoff

The laptop will almost certainly be dual voltage, in which case you can simply buy an adaptor to fit a UK electric socket, plug it in and switch on. Look for a note somewhere on your equipment which says something like "Input 100-240V". That means it's dual voltage.

Thanks for the reply, that's good to know. I've also heard of someone who attached a voltage converter to a powerbar, then plugged all their North American electric units into the powerbar. Any idea if that works?

I'm not sure what a powerbar is, but you should only need a voltage transformer for non-dual voltage appliances. You just need a plug converter for anything marked as dual voltage - typically most electronic items although strangely, often not hi-fi equipment!
