Canadian getting divorced living in US

Any and all help would be much appreciated...My friend is a Canadian and is living and working in the US 3 weeks out of every month and has been living this way for the past 3 years. He wants to obtain a divorce from his Canadian spouse but is not sure how to go about it? There are 3 children and family property on his side. He's wondering if his US time can be counted towards the seperation time as its been so long, and/or if he fesses up to adultury what should be done on his end. Thanks to everyone in advance.
