Canadian in Montpellier France

Post Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:19 am

My friend and I just moved to Montpellier from Vancouver a week ago; we will be here for 3 months. We are planning to learn French, visit the city and the area, and do outdoors activities like hiking and biking. We would like to meet other English speakers and make friends.

Also I would like to find a temporary job, just a couple of days per week - any idea how to go out to find a job?

Year in Sete

Post Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi....we are a family from Toronto in Meze for the year (arrived Sept 2008)...we have 3 sons (10, 13 and 15 y) and we both are english canadian, although learning french as we go...I am on sabbatical and my husband is taking a year's leave to help with the transition...Kids have been in french immersion so easy for them (relatively)...This is our second time in Montpellier area so we are better prepared for the 'new culture'....Let us know if you want to connect...we are off skiing in the Pyrenees next week (school holidays), but should be around on the weekend...Sandy

Hi everyone, I am a new member to this site and I am planning to move to France (Montpellier area in particular), I would appreciate any recommendations and help you can provide: cheap apartments for rent, demography of the area, foods and restaurants (|am an apprentice chef and I am planning to do some cooking while I am there :D )
thank you all for any help you can provide. Please feel free to email me at emad.ramsey@mail.com, thanks in advance

Hi Sandy,

We are also a family of 5 (daughter 14, daughter 11, son 7) from Toronto who are planning a year in the Montpellier region. And our children have been in French Immersion in school as well. We intend to leave in summer 2011 so our kids would be in grades 10, 7, and 4 respectively.

You must be back from your year by now. I would love to connect and hear your stories and experiences, suggestions, etc.

WE know that SW France is the ideal location for us as we would like to take advantage of the extra sun and fresh produce but how does one go about choosing a particular region. School is key I think?

WE have travelled extensively in France so are familiar with most of the regions but the idea of choosing a location that's not too pricey and with good schools in the area is a bit daunting.

Hope it was a year to remember! O:)

Hi Cathie,
Not sure if you got any info on living in the south of France, but it is amazing. We've been here almost a year with our 3 kids (6, 4, 1). We're just next to Montpellier and it's a great location. Feel free to contact me through here if you have any questions about the area, schools, etc.
