Canadian living in Canada working for American Company

Post Wed Jun 29, 2011 2:18 pm

Hi guys,

I love the site and I feel like some of my upcoming questions might already have been answered but I'll ask just to be sure.

I am a Canadian resident about to be employed by an American firm and I will be working and living in Canada while working for the American company. What is the easiest way for me to make this happen from a tax and legal stand point? It sounds like going the route of Form 1099 and getting a business license is the way to go but I want to make sure I cover all the bases and understand any legal and tax consequences. I'll keep checking back so any answers and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Noel

I can't contribute an answer, as I have the exact same question.

I'm Canadian and have been working for my company in the states for the past 3 yrs. I'm moving back to Canada for personal reason and will be working remotely from Canada. My company has never dealt with a situation like this and we're trying to figure out the legal details, as well as benefits etc.

Any help would be much appreciated!!
