Canadian loans for canadians studying in the US??

Post Sun May 09, 2010 3:31 pm

Does anyone know about the best options available for financing one's education, being a Canadian wanting to study in the US? Specifically loans offered by Canadian resources (govt and private loans)

Thanks!

There are some excellent study opportunities in the U.S. and the choices available are absolutely mind-boggling.

However, before committing yourself to the U.S., it is very important to know that the costs of studying are usually higher south of the border. Unless you are rich, this would be a prime consideration.

Consider obtaining an honours degree in Canada first and then locating an employer who might sponsor you for a TN or H1B. It should save you some money regardless of how you finance.

That is not an easy task in the current economy. There are approximately 6 applicants for every open position in the U.S. and a Canadian would most likely appear way down on the short list, maybe 5th or 9th since there are so many unemployed Americans.

No need for "honours" degree. Any bachelors will do.
