Canadian Married an American, HELP?

Post Sun Aug 01, 2010 9:57 pm

So my husband and I got married in April, and don't intend to live together until about January 2011. I'm so confused on how long it takes to get your green card, as well I hear that you have to come back every 6 months to keep your OHIP, but does anyone know how LONG I have to stay for when I come back, is it a weekend visit, or 6 months? Is there an actual time frame? I would like to keep my health care for when I decide to have children since its really expensive having children in America. Would I have to pay taxes to keep my health care? I have a million questions if anyones willing to feed me information!
Would appreciate it alot!

One can not have their cake and eat it too!! To get ones "green card" one has to become a PERMANENT resident of the USA! Thus one is not a resident of Canada, thus one is NOT eligible for CDn healthcare coverage.

Since ur already married, relationship visa wise, you have 2 options--Cr-1 or k3! K3 is pretty much useless--takes just as long as the cr-1, but it costs more and does not coem with work authorization right away! At 1 time the k3 was much faster, but that isnt the case now!

So goto Visajourney.com (VJ) and have a good look onthe cr-1 and k3 forums--at the top there are guides that gives one step by step instructions onhow to fill out the paperwork

cr-1 is taking anywhere for 9 month to over a year!! Its not a fast process, and oen that will not be completed by Jan 2011, well a very very very slim chance!! If you goto the CANADA forum on VJ, there is a timeline of how long it has been taking people!
