Canadian marrying Spanish fiancee in UK

Dear all,

I am a Canadian currently on a student visa valid til May next year due to marry my Spanish fiancee (whom already settled in UK) we already got our wedding registration date booked this September (went through the Certificate of approval and all that, therefore we got the go-ahead to get married in the town hall). I went back to Canada for a family visit and now going back again to UK next week using my student visa to enter UK.

I wanted to know what type of visa I should start applying for in order to be able to live and work right away after we get married and whether I can apply it directly from the UK? I have seen visas such as marriage visa, spouse visa, and EEA family permit mentioned on this forum, but I dont know which one to get after our marriage takes place (or even better, if I can start processing the visa now whether I am here in Canada or next week in UK). Also, does it mean that once I get this visa (marriage/spouse/EEA family permit) it will automaticaly cancel my student visa status?

If anyone can comment and help out I greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

Hi - you should apply for Further leave to remain (FLRM) marriage - this will give you 2 years extension and then after this time you can apply for indefinate leave to remain which is permanent.

thank you for ur reply.

Applying for FLR (further leave to remain) is what I thought I should do next after the marriage. Just thought that there is another way without paying so much and to stay longer than 2 years.

Thanks again
