Canadian moving to London!

Post Sun Aug 07, 2011 5:16 pm

Hello!

I am a Canadian teacher moving to North London in September . Coming from a relatively small Canadian city, I am finding the decision of where to live in North London difficult, considering the size of London.

Thus, I am asking for your help! Does anyone have any suggestions of good places in Northern London to live? I am looking for somewhere somewhat affordable (I know, not very realistic in London - but I am hoping not to have to spend more than 600pounds/month for a flatshare). Close proximity to a tube station is also a must as well as somewhere that has a reputation for being a relatively ‘safe’ area.

In addition, if anyone has any additional suggestions on where to find flatshares (i.e. websites, agencies...) any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks in advance!

actually you very much can live in London for £600/month rent - safe boroughs too (however, I am talking flat-share accommodations)! You will find that flats will be more affordable if on a bus route vs. right by the tube and because the transit system is quite good there, it shouldn't be a problem either way (or at least not too much of one).

If you are looking for flatshares, try gumtree and spareroomuk - you probably won't be able to find something to move into the day that you arrive as people would like to meet you (as I'm sure you would them) unless you know someone already there that can help you out.

Hi I am moving to the UK in two months time as well, although I will be mainly based up North, I foresee spending a lot of time in the London branch as well.

Email me at alvinphee@yahoo.com if you want to hook up for drinks or something.

I'm heading to London in January (was Nov, but my mom didn't want me to miss xmas lol).

I've got cousins living in North london, they really like it, but I suggest taking a look at descriptions of burroughs (areas) and see whcih type if best suited to you. Theres a great book I picked up called "Living and Working in London" it's available on Amazon etc. Has descriptions of the burroughs like crime rate, style of housing, average rent/mortgage, cool places to see etc.

Check it out!
