Canadian moving to the US

Post Tue Jan 24, 2012 12:36 pm

I am sure there is already a post describing this but I have already sifted through enough websites, so sorry in advance.
I am a Canadian citizen who is looking to move to the US to live with my boyfriend.
I am just looking for any sort of feedback, suggestions, or personal experiences that could really help me out. (:
Thanks!

Basically you have three options:

1. Get married and have him sponsor you for permanent residence in the USA. In this case visajourney.com is your friend :) .

2. Make only brief trips to the USA to visit him while you retain strong residential ties (job, school, and/or dependents) in Canada. Six months per visit is the absolute maximum but anyone staying anywhere near that long on a repeated basis will attract a LOT of suspicion.

3. If you can qualify for a long term USA visa yourself, you can move to the USA for an extended basis on your own terms and then live with him once you arrive. Note that work visas in the USA usually require that you have a degree and are working in a professional field appropriate for your degree.

for relationship visas, visajourney.com is the way to go. ALL the info you need and more! Examples of filled out forms, step by step instructions. k1 visa(fiance) takes around 6-8 months and the CR-1 (already married) takes a bit longer(though it has picked up speed) Disregard the k3.
