Canadian owing California Rental, state taxes

Post Mon Apr 26, 2010 10:22 am

Hi,

I am a Canadian investor who owns a rental property in California. I have my ITIN(thanks Steven!) for federal taxes but haven't considered the state taxes. I need some assistance on how to go about filing these or if I need to at all?

Aside I also wanted to know about filing state taxes for Nevada? I just wanted to double check that I do not have to file any state taxes there since it's a tax free state.

Thanks,

J

Your california rental property is indeed subject to Cali income tax, both on the rental income, and eventaully on cap gains when you sell.
