Black's Photography was great for me: 2 clear and shadowless copies, in and out in 20 minutes, $20.

I live in the northwest suburbs in the greater Chicagoland area. Does anyone know of a place that takes good Canadian passport photos? Based on user postings on websites such as this, I called Kinkos, JCPenny, USPS, and none of them do photos for Canadian passports. The reason is that their equipment/technolog is only configured to do the 2x2 size which is different than the dimensions required for a Canadian passport. Other users have commented that Walgreens and CVS do a terrible job. So far I have found this one place in downtown Chicago which is 30+ miles away, so I'd like to find a place that's closer. Any suggestions?

You could try Walgreens and CVS near you. Every one of them would be different, your experience may vary from someone's in say BF Idaho.

Failing that, perhaps a professional photographer studio could do it to specs.

Or look for a small mom/pop type camera store. A camera store by me (in VA,lol) does them. One would never know as they don't advertise it. Look in the yellow pages or google.

After getting crappy pictures taken at the UPS store (out of focus and wrong size, of course), I just went to Walgreen's and had them NOT cut the pictures to US passport length...I took them home and cut them myself with my scrapbook scorer/paper cutter and it worked like a charm!

I called around to a bunch of places that advertised on-line that they do Canadian passports, and none of them in fact do! (CVS etc). They've all apparently got "new machines" that can only do the 2 x 2 American size, it won't let them adjust the size or some such nonsense

I emailed the Atlanta consulate and they suggested Sears Portrait Studio, so I went there and for $16 was in and out in just a few minutes. She knew exactly what she was doing, because she had just done another Canadian a couple days before that, and had a heckuva time keeping the glare off his bald head.

I just couriered the renewal etc today hopefully my photos will not be rejected, because I really really really want to go home for Canada Day!

$97 renewal fee + $16 photos + $30 for courier = PITA! sheesh!

If you live near an enrollment centre, you might want to think about getting a NEXUS card instead, they take the photo for you.
Steve.

I don't live near anywhere civilized Steven. I had to drive 30 miles just to get to Sears. :p

Hopefully I won't need to re-do the photos, and hopefully before my passport expires again, I'll be living back in Canada!
