canadian passport renewal in perth

Post Mon Oct 08, 2007 1:18 am

Hello fellow canadians.HELP! I am trying to renew a passport for my four year old son. We currently live in perth and it has to be mailed to canberra. I have had 3 photos taken and they all stink.as well we don't know anyone here for more than 3 months and therefore need a "in lieu of guarantor declaration form" signed by a notary public, lawyer or judge.all seeming to be a pain at the end of the day.has anyone else experienced this.advice?

Cheers, Jackie

I'm just going through that myself. My daughter will be 4 at the end of the year and her passport expires next summer (around May). So I have to get her a new one before we go back for a visit in August.

I'll be trying to get her photo done in the next week so I haven't experienced that. We also need to do the "in lieu of form" because we've only been here for 5 months and didn't know anyone when we arrived. There are JP services for free at our local shopping mall so that won't be a problem.

My big concern that it will keep getting sent back because of the picture. We had that problem in Canada so I'm not holding out much hope here!

Do you know if they are actually processed in Canberra, or if they are sent off to Canada?

The canadian consulate in perth will supply you with a list of photographers that do the cdn passport photos- but i agree with you- Canada is picky and i am concerned about mine getting sent back- have had 3 done now.can you tell me which mall has the free jp service? Good luck! It is a bit of a pain- I don't know if it processed in canberra or canada.

Well, I'm in Brisbane so I don't think my mall will be much help to you :)

Looks like my passports will have to be sent to Sydney. Have you seen the list of photographers:

Check with the malls in your area and see if they offer JP services. I've heard it's relatively common around Oz.

Where abouts are you in Perth? Have you ever met a Canadian named Dorothy have you? I would never ask that if we were in Canada, but there aren't very many Canadians in Oz so you never know :)

If you ring the Canadian High Commission in Canberra, they will give you a list. Unfortunately I have found the consulate in Perth to be lacking in all areas of assistance and have gone straight to the source when I need anything. They have been extremely helpful in all matters I needed attending to.

Passport Photos in Perth

Post Sun Nov 23, 2008 8:01 pm

I've had a passport photo returned from Canadian Embassy Canberra as it had shadows on the face. The photographer in Perth was verbally abusive and tried to fob me off with even worse photos, then chased me out of the store when I said I could create a better photo at home. Is there anyone else who's had a similarly terrible experiences with the sole photographer in Perth recommended on the Canadian Passport website? I'm wondering if the originator of this forum discussion on photos visited the same clowns (Advance Digital Kodak Express) in 2007?

Hi Myriam! Yes, moving and living abroad requires endless patience as the hassles are never ending. I am here looking for info on getting a passport photo and it looks like I will have to travel 4 hours for one and then just hope they accept it. Ughhh!!!! But, I have had fingerprinting done for a criminal record check recently and believe it or not, it was quite easy-only it can take 4 months to get it back. Contact the High Commission ( (2) 6270-4000 ) to get a form sent to you. Then, I just contacted the local police station and they directed me to where I could get the fingerprinting done (police station in the nearest city). It cost $25.00. You will have to then get a bank cheque worth Cdn $25.00 (with charges it did cost over fifty dollars) and send your fingerprints and cheque to the RCMP in Ottawa (they will send the address with the form).

Good Luck!!
Kim
