Canadian permanent residents - F1 visa

Post Wed Jul 07, 2010 12:37 am

My husband and I are Canadian permanent residents for over an year now. I have been admitted into a school in US and I intend to apply for F-1 from Canada. My husband has been working in Canada for last 3 years. Will my husband's job in Canada and our residency status suffice to show my ties with Canada to get an F1 visa approval? In other words, what are my chances of F-1 visa approval in Canada? We both are Indian citizens.

Hello,
Im a Permanent resident of canada, I came here 5 months back. My husband is a canadian citizen and a greencard holder. I wish to apply for a MPH program in New york University on F1 visa. What are my chances of getting a student visa since my husband is a greencard holder. Im sure the embassy might be doubtful about my intentions to start residing in USA since my husband is a greencard holder.. What kind of ties should I show them... Please advice me on this at the earliest possible since I need to enroll myself in the winter semester. Thank you!

Since your spouse only has GC, he is not in a position to sponsor your for GC right now (he will when he gets US citrizenship).

Therefore, you are not considered an "immigration risk", and will be granted F1 without any problems because of this.

Ties in canada are required, at least when you apply for F1. Since ou are merely a tourist now (you have no other legal status to choose from), so I hope you have kept full residence in canada up until now (right?), or you are violating terms of tourist entry.

Hello,
Im not a tourist in Canada. My husband has sponsored me to Canada on Spousal visa... I have been here since 3 months... So I was thinking of applying for a visit visa/ F1 visa in december maximum.... Till then ill try to make strong ties here. Morgage a house or get a job or something. Me and my husband both are medical grads from pakistan and are studying for the licence exams.
