Canadian PR holder marries an illegal alien from USA

Hi !
I need your advice.
I'm a PR holder in Canada.
My boyfriend is staying in USA now and he overstayed his J-1 visa (4 years already)
The question is :
Can we get married in Las Vegas let's say,and then I'll go back to Canada and then i will start a sponsorhip for him?
Will really appreciate any opinions.

This will work, as long as he stays in US (or leaves and does not try to return).

But realize that he will be barred from entering US for 10 years when he leaves, so take a good look at US when you are down there as this will be the last time you visit as a couple.

the 10 years ban will work only till the time of getting Canadian's passport,please correct me if I'm wrong.

Huh? Cdns get 10-year bans too. Getting a differnt passport will not remove the ban.

i was confused a lot, cause lots of people are keep telling me not even to start this...
if he overstayed in USA he is not good for Canada...Will the overstay cause problems during the sponsorship?
may be someone knows how long does it take to now the sponsorship when from USA to Canada
