Yes. You have no doubt heard of the mortgage crisis? Being non-resident makes you a decidely riskier bet, thus the need for bigger downpayment.

Can we get resident permit to US as Canadians? I do not mean the working permit, just a resident permit. Would not that be easier to stay in the US longer then 183 days?

Resident permit? I do not believe this exists.
You would need to be a PR to be able to stay in the U.S. more than 183 days or apply for an extension once your six months are almost up. Unfortunately, Canadians do not get preferential treatment when it comes to residency.

No such thing exists. You're a visitor. There is no way of staying in the US indefinitely unless you qualify for an immigrant visa.
