Dear Kirk;

I am planning to go to Russia for the same reason that you have gone there. The thing is, I have never taken an airflight in my life. Some websites have given me alot of information for Canadians travelling in Russian. However, there are still some questions to which I cannot find answers. In addition, I would also appreciate any advice you could give me about avoiding problems and cultural differences.
As I understand it, foreigners must be "invited" to Russia through a travel agency at the point of arrival. Since I am organizing my own trip, how do I know I am dealing with a reputable company when I make my reservation with them and pay the required fee? Is it necessary to confirm my reservation with them and how long before departure?
I feel really relieved that I have found someone who has already experienced the same situation and who can give me specific pertinent advice. I may have other questions in the near future so I hope you don't mind if I ask for your help again. If you prefer to reply to my personal e-mail here it is:
s_cseri@hotmail.com
Thanking you in advance,

Sincerely,
Stephen

Hi Olga,
I am looking for a job in Moscow too. As far as I know, it depends what you are looking for, but in most cases - you need to be there. At least one did this way.

Hello, everyone! Smile

Seems like i'm the only one who is not from Canada here... Well, i think i can still deal with it... Smile
But i love Canada, it's culture and people VERY-very MUCH!!! One of my dreams came true this past summer - i went to Canada!!! (I was living in Paris which is approximately 85 km from Toronto, and I've also been to Ottawa!!! It was AwEsomE!!!) Now i miss it a lot!!!
We have American Center here in Mocow but unfortunately we don't have Canadian Center! Sad So the only thing i have found so far about Canadian travelers Smile is this web-site.
It would be great if I could chat with You!
Plus since I live here in Moscow may be I can help You somehow in finding some useful information or just simply tell You what does it mean - "Russia". Smile
That's a pity i can't do very much 'cause i'm just a student... But i have a great experience in "guiding" foreignrs from different countries...
So if You are interested in communication don't hesitate to write to me to specia@bk.ru

Have a safe trip to Russia and a pleasant stay in our country!!!

With best regards,
Liza.

Hi folks,

Well I am a Canadian who has lived and worked in various cities in Russia for 15 years now. All I can say is that I will be leaving as soon as possible. Moscow is a very difficult place to live in and it is getting progressively worse. I did Russian in University and speak fluent Russian and that helps. If you don't speak the language I would think twice before coming here. Despite what you might read in the press things here are not getting better. This is obvious for anyone like me who has to travel on business to Western Europe frequently. For the average person here (and foreigner I might add) life here is very trying.

In fact my advice at this point in time is to avoid Russia.

Good luck to you all

Tim
