Canadian seeking to train jiu-jitsu in U.S.A

Postby Rasztilan » Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:35 pm

Hello I'm in a confused daze and hope someone can help me. I am a professional MMA fighter just starting with a sanctioned 1-0 record but wish to go back to the U.S.A. and train with a Brazilian jiu-jitsu school. In the past I've had to go 3 months there come back wait rince repeat. Now is there anyway for me to get a visa that may allow me to stay there longer or even the slight possibility of working while I'm there ( I am a Loss Prevention Officer by trade). It's hard on the training cycle to leave for a couple weeks then return. And would be even nicer if I didn't have to spend all my savings by not working.
Please help!

I've no idea if the Loss Prevention Officer would be on the approved list of NAFTA trades for a TN visa or not. Check out the TV Visa Expert website, there's probably info there to help you.

Why do you only stay 3 months? Canadians can stay for up to 6 months per year without a visa. Can't work during that time, but I'm sure training for jiu jitsu would be allowed if you can prove ties to home country and ability to finanically support yourself during the stay.

I don't think there's a jiu jitsu visa though to allow you to stay longer. ;)

If you get really good you could go for O-1 for someone with "outstanding" ability.

I knew a water skiier who EB-1 (same thing but permanent).
