Canadian Visitors Visa for a loved one ~ Advice Please

Post Thu Jul 19, 2007 6:48 am

I am looking for some advice. I am a Canadian who fell in love in Trinidad during a one year internship. My boyfriend and I are currently doing to long distance relationship from the United States (my job is based in the US) to Trinidad and it has been going very well for 1 year now, my current job allows me to travel to Trinidad every few months. However he has not been able to acquire a Canadian visitor’s visa, they stated it was because they were concerned about his employment status, he is on a contract job in Trinidad but it is a very good and stable job.

I am at odds as to how to get him to visit Canada, my family and I sent many letters supporting him and stating that we would pay for his full trip however he was still denied. I am getting very frustrated with the system as before we get engaged I would like him to be able to meet my family, and visit my home country.

Has anyone ever been through this and if so do you have any advice when dealing with the Canadian High Commissioners office.

Thanks KTE

I'm in the exact same situation. I have fallen in love with a man from Thailand and would like to get him a tourist visa to meet my family as well. We are also having difficulties proving that he will return. If you find any good advice or tips please let me know.

He needs to have a full time job at least. So a contractual job is probably not enough.

It's just that Canada is concern about illegal immigrants and if they don't think that someone have a big enough reason to go back then they don't allow him to come.

It sucks for you, but that's how it works.

Unfortunately I don't have any types. :(

We are also having difficulties proving that he will return.

that is cerainly a biggie.

i actually lived with my thai GF for ~18 months in LOS & travelling around asia with her. we were able to prove we knew each other for two years when we applied for her first TRV, which was refused. actually that one was based on the fact that i was not living in canada for over two years & they deemed me not to be the "ideal" sponsor as i had no residence or job back home.

i came home got respectable with a job & an apt & when we applied for her second TRV it was refused on the basis that "because we proved we were romantically involved that she had a very good reason not to return".

i was blown away by the whole process & the realtionship just didn't make it past the strain of separation.

there are a couple of immigration specific forums where you can get a wealth of info.

oh well i can't include any URL's but just google "canadian tourist visa + forums" & you will find sites that might be a good read before you go crazy pulling your hair out with the TRV process.

good luck with your boyfriend's TRV.

saskonian

I just talked to someone who deals with this every day and she told me there is a possibility if they have already been denied to get in through a Temporary Resident Permit, I guess it is different then a Visa and it has worked for people who have applied and got denied before. You would need sworn affidavit through. Also there is a $200 processing fee with NO guarantee. Not sure if this will help at all but I think we are going to try it, I will let you know how it goes!
