Canadian wanting to be in US

Ok, my fiance and I are stuck with this immigration stuff. He can't support me because he doesn't make above the poverty line. Does it matter? I assume so. He is American and we have a son that is 4 months old in a few days. He was born in the US and I came back here to try and make enough for all the filing fees I'll be paying for. We don't know how to go about all this and our relationship is suffering because of it. I need some advice!!!!
