Canadian who wants to be Australian

Post Sun Dec 19, 2010 7:10 pm

Hey guys,

I went to the Australian immigration website to get as much information as possible in obtaining a general skilled migration visa (subclass 175), and I have a few questions.

I didn't find my exact occupation on the (SOL) list, however did read that you get some points for the 120 point test assessment if your occupation is close. I work as an account representative for a FMCG company.
I do speak another language that is on their community language list fluently.
i'm 25 years old, and have a Bachelors of commerce degree.

When I did the online assessment for the visa, I ended up with 115 points...it says the passing mark is 120 but if you score over 100 it will be put in a pool and if the score is lowered in 2 years to what your score is, your application will be further processed.

My question is (and it is very general, i'm looking for opions here): SHould I go ahead and fill out an application, what are the chances of being accepted? I say i got 115 as a score but who know what they see me with. I ask because it says the fee is $2500 and Im not sure if its all worth that much when there is certain refusal.

Any comments, suggestions, feedback is appreciated.

Hi,

Why don't you go over on a Working Holiday visa first and take it from there? I've heard that the skilled migrant visas take up to 2 years to process and by that time the ship may have sailed on your interest in going. If you like it while your there you may be able to get sponsorship?

Good luck

I don't want to be too negative here, but I can say with near certainty they will NEVER lower the score required on the points test. Australian immigration policies are tightening, not loosening as there is HUGE pressure on the government to close the doors. The sentiment in this country is very anti-immigration at the moment.

You might have better luck getting an employer-sponsored work visa. If you were to get a job in Canada with an employer who has offices in Australia, then apply for a transfer when something came up, your company might be willing to give you a temporary visa, which you might then be able to parlay into a PR visa after 2 years, either on your own (I think you get extra points for having Australian work experience) or again with company sponsorship.

Without those extra 5 points, I would say it is NOT in your interest to submit an application for PR. In fact, even for people who meet the criteria, PR applications for skilled migrants can take years to process. The best bet is an employer sponsor.
