Canadians buying real estate in Ecuador

Are there any Canadians who have experienced buying property in Ecuador and are willing to share their experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly!)?

We are just beginning to investigate opportunities (on line) and are considering a trip to Ecuador to view properties.

Appreciate any input you may have.

Little late to respond, but I'm in Ecuador. Prices are great and though, as in any Latin American country, the paperwork can be a bit trying. They do like their 'estampas' down here. But, I know of no one who has had the kind of title issues and land squabbles or battles that exist in most Central American countries.

Did you buy on the coast of Ecuador? I will be in Ecuador in Sept. I did read that report you suggest and it is good but is it possible to talk to you about your experience? Did you use a real estate agent or just a good lawyer? Do you know where the Canadians are buying in Ecuador?
